hi Brea, good you’re here and good you’re fine and good to hear from you.
you’re not the only one who’s just in love with Leo, I’m just in love with Leo too. I wish I was 21, I’m young at 50. That’s true, Leo is so awesome. I’m in the UK. And reading Leo’s main news on his homepage, its brilliant to know that Leo’s going to be touring Europe next summer, and he also says he should be touring in the USA sometime next year too.
So do keep a look out on Leo’s main news on his homepage too.
It’ll be brilliant to see Leo.

  3. Brea says:

Yeah, I’m here. I’m fine :) You know it’s pretty crazy that I am only 21 and I’m just in love with Leo. He is so awesome. I wish he would come to the US. I would die!

  4. C says:

are where’s Brea, are you ok ?

Hi Leo, in my opinion, When I need You is a beautiful ballad. I’ve managed to work it out its in the key of c major, and I play it on the piano, its a lovely one to play. It would be good to go to Shoreham-by-Sea one of these days. Always wanted to. And Brighton. Sad to know your childhood house no longer there, and if I had have known you were asked to come up with something to save it, I had an idea and that would have been to open it up to the public and inside tells the life story of an amazing man and his music, that is Leo Sayer. I have before now also informed the King’s Hotel, Hove, that you were fire hero at that hotel in January 1967.
I was hoping the manager was going to put a blue plaque on the wall commemorating your very brave efforts. Will inform them again and see if they will do something like that especially for you. If not I’ve still got the
photocopy articles, for you to have.

    Hi Leo
I am just selecting some old favorite tracks for a rather major party on the 25th of September in Shoreham by-Sea, including When I need You. My Nan was a neighbour of your parents in Southwick and you asked my auntie Christine for her opion on When I need You soon after you had written it.
Should you be in Shoreham on the 25th consider yourself invited. You have my email address.

YOU ARE AMAZING AND I LOVE YOU!!!!

  9. C says:

Hi Brea, just read your message again, and with you saying Oh what I wouldn’t do for an opportunity like that, I’ve been thinking about you saying that, and I would even go as far as going out to Australia and meet Leo there too. That would also be wonderful.

  10. C says:

Oh, I said I’m having a job doing things now cause where I said 12 January 1999 it should have been 12 January 2000, sorry. I wrote all that early this morning after a sleepless night…Here’s the poem I wrote especially for Leo.

    ‘A LEGEND AND A DJ’

I recall him from the seventies,
When I was young and others old,
‘You Make Me Feel Like Dancing’, ‘Moonlighting’,
Once a DJ on 774 Classic Gold.

Every Sunday from twelve till two,
    I’d turn on the radio,
    Enjoy another show,
    From my favourite host Leo.

I’ve seen him up there on the stage,
All his hits he did play,
    It was an outstanding performance,
And Leo did a splendid job being DJ

Oh its a wonderful pleasure meeting Leo,
I feel I know him well,
“Good times great oldies” he evoked,
And a story Leo would tell’.

Can not wait for next Sunday,
Wonder what he’ll play for me and you,
“Its Leo Sayer on Classic Gold, playing great
Music and songs to sing-a-long too”.

    C 12/09/2010

That’s a poem I’ve written and the only poem I’ve learnt off by heart.
Leo’s always in my mind and heart.
YOU ARE AMAZING AND I LOVE YOU TOO LEO!!!!

  11. C says:

Oh, I meant to put four exclamation marks in the big message where I said about and I love him. I can’t believe it, that’s what’s done that to me, sorry. Now I’m having a job doing things.
YOU ARE AMAZING AND I LOVE YOU!!!!

  12. C says:

Hi Brea, Oh Yes too right, I have had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Leo. I’ve met Leo a couple of times, and have seen him perform live four times now and will go and see Leo again. I’d even go and see him in Australia as well. Leo’s absolutely wonderful, Leo’s my heart, my soul, and life’s inspiration. I can tell you all about the times I’ve met Leo, and seen him. The first concert of Leo’s I went to was on Friday 3rd April, 1998 at Cheltenham Town Hall, it was an outstanding performance, and the minute Leo stepped foot on stage, he set eyes on me, it was like love at first sight. I was so lucky to be in the front row, and after an outstanding performance, i met Leo outside the back afterwards. We collided into each other and Leo looked up and we said “Hello”. Leo very kindly kept me on his arm, and after signing a few autographs including my autograph book, Leo and I embraced in a big kiss. I recall Leo saying to me, “Its nice meeting you” and so sorry I was speechless and neither of us wanted to go. I recall Leo pulled the crowd closer together and I found myself going deeper and deeper into the crowd and I recall saying “Excuse me” to someone who looked like a DJ, it could have been Mike Read. Well, when I got home that night, I never went to bed. I looked through the tour book, and in my autograph book to pleasantly discover Leo signed my book to Phill and Jackie, (as Jackie was my name then) With love from Leo Sayer and four kisses in there. Later that year, the then husband (Phill) and I had been into B and Q on the main Tewkesbury Road. then came out waiting for the bus back home. I said to Phill, “I wish Leo was still here”. Then the next minute Phill said, “There’s Leo’s long white lorry there”, so I kept my eyes firmly fixed on the on coming traffic and the next minute my prayers were answered, there was loveable
Leo Sayer, seated in the back of his black BMW lined with cream seats and he saw me (in my work togs) and made those eyes at me. So glad the bus was late. Then in September of that year, Leo returned to Gloucestershire and did a series of his own radio shows. Mike Read said Leo enjoyed himself so much, he wanted to come back. Yo brilliant! And on Leo’s first radio programme, I thought what can I do to surprise Leo. So I requested for ‘When I Need You’ to be played, and just before Leo came on the air, the DJ played Leo Sayer’s world wide hit song ‘When I Need You’, and said that’s from Jackie who likes Leo very very much. I thought to myself you can change the word like to love. Leo is a brilliant dj too. And too right, I became a member of the Leo Sayer fan club, so got to know where Leo was performing. Then the following year on Thursday 14th October, 1999, I boarded the train and went to Blackpool. I pulled Phill along too. We made it into a few days holiday. Went to Brannigans nightclub earlier that evening and asked about the show. The person we saw looked rather surprised after saying Leo’s vehicles would be parked around here then I said ‘A long white lorry and black BMW’. Well Phill and I went to Leo’s show in Brannigans, I was stood just behind Phill. Phill said Leo came on and looked a bit down till he spotted Phill in the audience, Leo knew I was somewhere around and he soon perked up. Leo eventually found me after scattering the crowd on the left side, he found me on the side facing the dance floor, appropriately singing ‘When I Need You’, Leo’s blue eyes were sparkling like diamonds as we both smiled another “hello”, I recall Leo at the end of that outstanding performance sang Shianna Twain’s hit song ‘Man Feels Like A Woman’, and he yoddled afterwards. Then Phill and I went to the back door, Leo was outside looking in. Phill said ‘Is that Leo Sayer there?’ I replied ‘Yes it is’, he was looking at us. Alan Sutton, Leo’s then fanclub manager said they’d be back in a few mins after taking some recording equipment back to their hotel. Leo and Alan got into a taxi cab, a black one like the ones they have in London. I guessed Alan asked Leo if he was okay, and Leo nodded his head. They did come back, and after that Leo and I had a photograph taken. Alan took the photograph. Leo Sayer and I arm in arm, and me a surprised look with Alan addressed me as ‘Hello sweetheart’. Soon after that, I found Leo seated at the bar and I presented Leo with a poem I wrote especially for him titled ‘A Legend And A DJ’. Leo was overwhelmed and frightened me when he started to cry. I gently took hold of Leo’s arm, and he soon pulled himself together. Leo then asked me for my details. I had no pen, so he lent me his, and gave me the paper with the poem on and said for me to go and find a quite spot. So I did. Phill came over, and said ‘What are you doing ?’, I replied ‘Nothing for you’, and some other lad peered over my shoulder too but didn’t get to see. My hand froze around Leo’s blue and silver pen as I wrote out my details for him. Then, I went to give Leo his pen and the poem back to him. There was a que of fans in front of him, and as I got almost half way down the que to go to the back, Leo had very kindly asked them to move so I could be close to him. They did and I thanked them kindly for doing so. Then one of the other fans with my camera very kindly took a photo of Leo, Phill and I. After giving Phill the camera back, Leo snatched the camera out of Phill’s hand (good), and said ‘Give me that camera, I’m giving it back to Jackie not you’, and the pair then roared in each others ear, and Leo did give me the camera back ‘em…then a little later on Phill and I were walking along the Golden Mile, in search for a Macdonald’s but were told they were closed with it having gone midnight! Next minute, a voice from behind said, “Excuse me, is there’s a Macdonald’s open?” I looked back not really realising it was Alan Sutton, and replied, “No sorry they’re closed”. We carried on walking, and next minute I saw someone the other side of me keeping up. I felt a little nervous at that time in the morning. But was soon okay when the person snapped his fingers and said ‘Jackie, would you like a walk about?’ WOW, it was loveable Leo Sayer, I soon left Phillip and off I went with Leo Sayer. We walked on ahead of Phill and Alan. Alan said Leo’s hungry, so we went in search for somewhere to eat. Firstly, we came across another nightclub. Leo tried getting us in there but the misserable door attendents declined us. Leo asked them ‘Why not?’, Leo and I, Phill and Alan just carried on walking the Golden Mile. We came across what looked like a burger stall. Leo and I stood in front of Phill and Alan, reading the menu board together. I leant gently back on Leo, and Leo leant gently over my left shoulder. The stall looked closed, Leo said ‘No I don’t think so’. So we continued walking and about two in the morning, Leo spotted a light still on on a chippy bar. So we walked on up a slight hill to the left. Leo laid his hands on the counter and they remained open for us. Alan said, “You can have what ever you like”. I replied ‘Thank you’, and Alan said, ‘You’re more than welcome you are’. I told Phill not to be too greedy and he went and had sausage, burger and chips. Leo and I had the same as each other, just chips. Leo topped his up with brown sauce. He only ate one chip and threw the rest away. Alan said to Phill, ‘Look at them two, they both pick at their food’. Leo and I were talking, and everytime Phill tried to talk, and thankfully Leo everytime chopped Phill out of our conversation, and let me talk to him. Thank you Leo, that was a wonderful change for me cause Phill used to stop me talking to people. And as we were walking up, one of the other fans said to me, that was a good poem I wrote for Leo. And when Leo and I were talking waiting for our chips, I recall a lad come up and spoke to Leo and recollected Leo’s original album ‘Silverbird’.
Also earlier on in the night whilst in Brannigans nightclub, Leo said to Phill, ‘Its nice to see Jackie again, feels like I’ve known her a long time’.
Anyway, after Leo and I had our chips we were about to go on walking when we were approached by some guys. They could see I was with Leo. They said to Phill, ‘Sort it out your wife’s with Leo’ Phill replied to them ‘No, were having a night of fun’. Then one of the lads came up to me. I was kind of scared but then I realized I had to look after Leo’s safety on the road. Leo looked at me. I looked at Leo, and Leo put strength into me and then I turned round to the bloke and spoke with my eyes saying to the bloke, ‘Go away I’m not talking to you’. next minute he went back to Phill. Phill then had a job getting away from the bloke and as he did, Leo came the other side of me, and Leo and I went on walking back up to the north of the Golden Mile. Phill had to catch us up. Then about quarter to four in the morning, Alan said ‘I think we ought to say goodnight now’, ah. Leo and I kissed. Alan said to Phill, ‘Look at them two, they’re kissing again’. Then Leo and I put both our thumbs up after we talked about his new album. Then Leo and Alan walked on up north of the Golden Mile. Phill and I stood to one side. I wasn’t going back straight away, oh no. Then all of a sudden Leo turned round as though to come back to me. He stood on the pavement with his head bowed down into the palm of his hand in deep thought as if I knew exactly what Leo was thinking. Alan suddenly realized Leo wasn’t walking with him and called out ‘Leo’. Leo didn’t move and Alan looked at me, and he knew not to shout at Leo. Alan called out in a quieter voice, ‘Leo’. and Leo still wouldn’t move. Then Alan said to Leo, will mention you and Jackie on the radio ‘Happy together’, Leo agreed and the pair started walking back the other direction. Phill and I still stood to the side as I was looking on, and Leo said to Alan to temporarilly close his website down until he finds me again at the end of his tour. Alan agreed. Leo’s then website was temporarilly closed down and the mention of Leo and I happy together was aired on the radio. And the DJ Paul Bennett said he too thinks Leo and I look good together. I don’t know how he knew. He may have had a photo. And on 12th January, 1999 – Leo Sayer did come back through Cheltenham. Phill and I were just going over to Sainsburys after work one evening, and I happened to spot Leo’s long white lorry and black BMW stationary at the traffic lights. We got into the middle bit and I just knelt down and cried couldn’t believe it was Leo Sayer in Cheltenham again. That weekend, Phill and I went to the Woodmancote Royal British Legion club, and the lead singer of the group that night said about Leo had called into the Cheltenham Town Hall, and requested them to play Stevie Wonder’s song ‘I Just Called To Say I Love You’. and the lead singer kept on saying Leo Leo throughout the song. I think the group at the time was called ‘The Ramrods’ if my memory serves me rightly. Then a couple of years later in 2002, I recall being invited to see Leo perform in the musical of ‘African Song And Dance’ at London’s Royal Albert Hall, in ‘Reaching Out For Africa’. I asked Phill to come along with me, and the devil wouldn’t and so sorry I had not got to see Leo there as venturing London on my own late at night, I was a little apprehensive. Again, so sorry. Then in 2004, Phill and I started divorce proceedings. I kept on Leo this, Leo that, but Leo wasn’t the only cause of our divorce there were other things too. But divorcing Phill was well worth it especially for loveable Leo Sayer. In April 2004, I went up to Shepherd’s Bush Empire with a complete stranger from the Internet although he was from the SASBAND’S messageboard but I got hold of him to take me to see Leo Sayer’s musical friends the SASBAND at Shepherd’s Bush empire. Then the stranger took me all the way to Eastleigh in July of that year. I saw Leo Sayer perform with The SASBAND that time on Saturday 31st July, 2004. So lucky to be in front row again. I was told there was a place reserved for me, thank so much and much appreciative for everything Leo. Leo came out just before Judy Tzuke’s support, and he spotted me in the crowd. The person next to me stroked the back of my hand, and I soon saw loveable Leo Sayer. The girl the other side of me said ‘Did you see Leo Sayer?’. I replied, ‘Yes too right I saw Leo Sayer, its us little one’s you’ve got to watch’, and the girl replied to me ‘Oh I see’. Then when Leo came on stage diagonally opposite me, he smiled a ‘Good evening Eastbourne’. I replied ‘Oi, oi, oi, its not Eastbourne, its Eastleigh’. Then Leo smiled and paused for a moment thinking what to say say next. Leo then said ‘Its good to be back in my hometown of Sussex’. I replied ‘Oi, oi, oi, its not Sussex, its Shoreham. Shoreham’s your hometown, Sussex is the county.’. Leo replied ‘Are alright then’. Then Leo went into his three songs. Some woman looked at me in the audience wondering how Leo and I know each other.
And more recently, I booked up to see loveable Leo Sayer at Birmingham Arena on 2nd July, 2010. And wow what another wonderful brilliant night it was too a big big big big thank you again to loveable Leo Sayer. And I went and got a taxi all the way to Birmingham, especially to see loveable Leo Sayer. I goes to arms length when it comes to Leo Sayer the man is just purely wonderful and amazing and I love him!!! I’m a devoted fan of Leo’s ever since I was seventeen years of age (now I’m 50) the first Leo Sayer album I had hold of was his album ‘The Best Of Leo Sayer’, and the first ever Leo Sayer album/Cd, I purchased was Leo Sayer 20 Great Love Songs.

    Hello, I Leo!
I am a great admirer of all your work and it wanted to be grateful for you for everything what you him have contributed to the world of the music.
You are an exceptional singer, and a great composer.
I am a humble guitarist and nowadays I am trying to do your song ” I want you back ” in the guitar. For one week I am in it, and there is incredible the quantity of musical possibilities that can be extracted of this song. It is brilliant!
I listen to you from the year ‘ 76 (that they are not two days); with your songs I have danced, and conquered the heart of many girls, you have made me live through really unforgettable moments.
I will continue listening to you and making listen to my family and friends.
Thank you very much for everything and the best of the lucks for you.
Come some day for Tenerife, Spain!
    We wait for you!

    Hi Leo,
    How are you?
Just a quick hello and to thank you for acknowledging us when we were leaving the restaurant last night. I guess you can feel when people are having a quick glance over at you…… Hope you enjoyed your meal, isn’t Korean food is great! Although I grew up with your music I spent a while afterwards explaining you & your music to my wife and her brothers who are Korean. I can’t sing for &*%# so I’m afraid the rendition of “I feel like dancing” was so bad and I didn’t even dare try “Moonlighting” – singing is best left for the experts).
    Have a great time here.
    Cheers and take care.

Also, sorry I meant to put F1 not f1 as I had put. it was late at night here when I posted that message. I saw Leo’s post’s on Joe Saward’s blog and interesting, you mentioned, Malaya, (know the Grand Prix has been held there too. Malaya is now called Malaysia). Also reading the post regarding the radio recording, I recall Leo Sayer presented a series of ten of his own radio shows on 774 Classic Gold, here in 1998. Leo done a brilliant job of DJ host too. wish i could include some smilies. its brilliant the way you’ve done that. all the best to you too. C

  23. C says:

Oh, I wonder if that’s Chris Thompson from the SAS Band, Leo Sayer’s musical friends. I have seen Leo’s musical friends perform twice once at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire and secondly at Eastleigh, when Leo was their special guest (at Eastleigh) on Saturday 31st July, 2004. Leo sang a duet with Madeline Bell, if I remember rightly as well as
‘We Are The Champions’and two other songs. I recall that night well, and had a wonderful surprise from Leo Sayer, when he came out just before Judy Tzuke’s support act I think it was, and he spotted me in the front row first a big thank you Leo, much appreciative. I think I recall Chris Thompson being at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire as well as Eastleigh. like the smilies. and have clicked on the link in your message.

Hi Leo, been browsing through your European photos in the photograph section of your website, and don’t know if its me but have only been able to view 6/14 or 6/20 of them I think it is, and it looks like some of the pics have been removed. Have some of the pics been removed as the photo of you with the title heading ” This Is Making Me Feel Like Dancing Again” doesn’t appear to be there, and just wondering why?
They’re really good photo’s of your European Tour, and Travels, as all your photo’s are really good, Leo.
I appreciate Leo Sayer in all that he does thank you, Leo.

  31. nichola says:

    Dear Mr Sayer ,
will you be singing “train” at your sydney concert in november ?
    looking forward to your concert.
    thanks.

  32. C says:

Anjana, thinking of When I need you, again when the recording of
When I need you, took place, I understand, Mr. Sayer was living and working in L.A. at that time and really missing his ex-wife, Janice, who was then back in London. So I guess he so much wanted to be with her, and so he had no problem identifying the lyrics in When I need you.

  33. C says:

i always have Leo Sayer in mind would be wonderful to lend
Leo Sayer a hand to his One Man Band. Leo sang
‘When I need you’ during his brilliant show at the recent
once in a life time show and let the audience sing the song on their own for quite a while. I also recall Leo sang ‘When I need you’ on his come back tour show on Friday 3rd April, 1998, and will never forget the look he gave when he sang the words ‘when i’m with you’, and the same when he sang the song at Branigans in Blackpool on Thurs 14th October, 1999, his blue eyes were sparkling like diamonds. I believe the song was recorded at Richard Perry’s recording studio in LA and was a number one hit single in the UK charts in March, 1977. Leo’s song ‘When I need you’, is also my all time favourite.

  34. C says:

Hi Ajana, I hope you and I hope Mr. Sayer doesn’t mind me answering your queries of ‘When I need you’ for you where i can. Just seen your queries, have been watching the video of When I need you’ on Facebook, again. When I need you’, was actually co-written by two American writers, Carole Bayer-Sager and Albert Hammond. I believe the song was recorded in L.A. It was during the time when Leo was recording the Endless Flight album (produced by Richard Perry). Leo searched to find covers that he could as if he’d written, as Leo had only recorded his own material up to that point. ‘When I need you’, had been turned down by many major artists and producers when he found it, but Leo and the producers knew they could make it a hit. Leo was in LA on his own, really missing his ex-wife Janice, who was back in London, so he had no problem identifying with Carole Bayer-Sager’s lyric. The music was written/composed by Albert Hammond. It was Leo’s biggest international hit and is now consdiered a classic, of which Leo is very proud. I trust I have answered your queries in detail and correctly

  35. C says:

Eric, you too bring back so much memories to me. have watched the wonderful video of When I need you again. its wonderful we feel the same for each other. God Bless

  36. Anjana says:

    Dear Mr. Sayer,
When you wrote the song ‘When I need you’, what did you have in mind? And under what circumstances/ situations did you sing the song?Where was the recording done? I want to know a few details about it as it’s been my all time favourite.
So would you please tell me some detail about the song.

    Thanks,
    Anjana

  37. C says:

Hi Eric, its lovely of you to say about the video of ‘When I need you’, and that I bring back so much memories to you. i fully understand where you are coming from and i feel the same for you too. i wish i could be there with you right now. i think of you all of the time and i am so grateful and honoured. God Bless.

i recall you let the audience sing when i need you on their own for quite a while on 2nd july, 2010. will never forget your truly wonderful show that night especially the bobbing when you sang one man band straight after when you sang more than i can say. and i also saw the tears in your eye that time when you were in cbb, seated in the big chair. looking forward to your new cd “The Greatest Hits”, have pre-ordered the album which will be released at Amazon.Co.Uk on 31/08/2010. lots of love C xx

    Hi Leo

I have a volunteer community service dog with no eyes named Myron. His hobbies include visiting nursing homes and charity events with photo’s of him pictured with various celebrities such as John Paul Young, Kamahl, Ray Martin and many more. Myron and I would love to include a picture of you in his portfolio. We would only take 5 minutes of your time if you would be interested in participating in this.

    Hi Leo,

Just wanted to say thanks for being ever so nice to me after Dueting It For The Kids at State Theatre even though I was rather rude to you. I am going to do a burlesque parody to Thunder In My Heart to show my appreciaton. Hope you remembered to plant my flowers!

And I don’t hate you anymore. There’s worse music than you. Like Michael Buble. Eek.

    Dear Mr. Sayer,

as a teenager in 1976, in a dorm at Rostrevor College in Adelaide, Br webb would play your album ‘Just a Boy’ just after lights-out.

And a few years later, my brother and I had the pleasure of seeing you in concert at the Adelaide Festival Centre.

    Thank you.
