(Melbourne, Victoria, Australia – March 3rd 2015)
I hope you are all well – and I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to post a first message for this year.
I must say that everything is going great for me at the moment. My new album ‘Restless Years’ has been out here in Australia since late January, and the reception to it from journalists, critics, music business people, musicians and fans has been totally positive. It’s out on the Fanfare Records label and hit the top 40 in the first week of release, marking my first appearance back in the Aussie Album Charts for quite a while.
Next we are planning to release the album in the UK and my record label there, Demon, will schedule the release for sometime this summer. They are planning a special pack for the sleeve, and this release will be co-ordinated with a major UK tour during September and October. Needless to say I’m really looking forward to returning to see all my British fans. Dates and ticket details should be up on the ‘Live News’ page soon, and I guarantee you’ll hear about it first right here.
Back to Australia, and we are right in the middle of the ‘Restless Years’ tour. I’m currently in Victoria, after performing sold out concerts throughout South Australia (Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Port Pirie, Adelaide and Mount Gambier), then Western Australia (Albany, Bunbury, and Mundaring Weir in Perth). Just last week we’ve been in Warrugal, Tumbarumba (nr. Wagga Wagga), Sale, Bendigo and Albury. Now we play Warnambool on Wednesday (tomorrow), Ballarat on Thursday, Melbourne on Friday, and Geelong on Saturday. Next week we go to New South Wales, Canberra (Capital Territory), Darwin (in the Northern Territory) and Queensland, and the whole tour ends up on Sunday 12th April in Hobart, Tasmania. It’ll be my biggest Australian tour yet with 30 dates in all.
Phew, now I’m getting exhausted just thinking about it!
But it’s all going stunningly well. My fabulous band here: Bill Risby (keys), Mitch Cairns (bass), Danny Spencer (guitars), and Adrian Violi (drums) are all a joy to work with, and the standard of musicianship going on amongst these guys is as good as I’ve ever experienced, real class. Mitch, Bill, and Danny also played on the ‘Restless Years’ album, of course.
We are playing long (2+ hr) shows, and I make sure every night to come out and spend time signing stuff and being photographed with the fans, so these are long days on road, but we all seem to be coping very well, especially the old bloke in front!
At the start of the year I had a nice little journey with the UK band to Asia to play two concerts in Singapore (Jan 17th) and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Jan 20th). This trip turned out to be a fantastic surprise because, though I’d met plenty of people from there before who were Leo fans, I had no idea I was so popular. My shows turned out to be packed to the rafters and everybody sang and danced along like on a home gig. In between times me and the band (Ronnie Johnson, Dave Troke, Elliot Henshaw and Rob Taggart) were honoured visitors to British consulate parties, and went on many VIP trips. It was all a wonderful experience and I must say a big thanks to The British Theatre Playhouse for putting on the shows. Special mentions go to Cecilia Long Faulkner and Nicholas Pinder for everything they did for us, and I can’t wait to go back!
And thank you all for your kind mentions regarding ‘Restless Years’. I really hope you all enjoy listening to it as much as I had fun creating it. We will make sure it becomes available all over the world eventually, as I’m really proud of this record.
Come and see us on the Australian tour if you are down here, there are still some tickets available. To see the dates, or book tickets, go to the Live News page now.
So here’s wishing you all a Beautiful Year. It’s one that for me looks like it’s gonna be a very “Restless Year” indeed…
See you soon!
This is the new look ‘leo sayer.com’ – the official website and home of all things “leo”, so if it’s your first visit, here’s a few guidelines.
I think a website is like a virtual “world”, an entirely new home, an exhibition in the ether, and a different (and maybe fresh) way of looking at a life or career – well anyway, that’s the theory behind ‘leo’s room”.
Run your mouse or curser across the home page and you’ll see you can instantly locate various categories of the site by clicking and selecting highlighted images or icons.
These categories are also listed on top of the room, and here’s more on them:
News. You’ll find up to the moment news of my activities and my latest message to you on the news page.
Messages. The message page works much like before – here I invite you to send me a message, ask me questions, or create a forum or topic for discussion. Please keep your posts limited to one person per posting name. It’s not intended as a conversation page between friends – it’s a discussion group, so please when replying to a post, stick to the discussion topics. The site is monitored by the website facilitators (not only me) and we will remove multi posters who use more than one log in name, and all those who profess or pretend, incorrectly, to be the site moderators. Furthermore, we will not tolerate rudeness, offensive language, insults or bad manners, so if you want your message to be shown, you must adhere to these rules.
I will endeavour to reply to as many of your questions as frequently as I can.
Live news. This now has it’s own section too – with details of upcoming concerts and appearances.
Audio player. Here you can listen to tracks on the media player. This features a personal selection various tracks from the archives or recent live material, which will be updated from time to time.
Biography (The Story So Far). This has been carried over from the last edition of the site, and has the entire story of my life and career, with accompanying pictures.
Discography. It’s all new and details the hits and chart positions of my albums and singles in the U.K., the U.S.A., and Australia, also the territories they were released in.
Lyrics. Some of you may remember these pages from before, so I’ve brought ‘em back and brought them up to date – all the lyrics of every album and single track released are shown here.
Photographs. Here’s a new style gallery in an easily navigable format. It’s split into two categories: My career, and Recent Activities. I’ll be up dating these with new pics galleries from time to time.
Press Articles. I’ve been collecting these for some time, so I thought it’d be cool to share some of these with you. They run all the way from 1972 to the present day, telling my story from various other perspectives.
Store. Coming soon… Here there’ll be a chance to purchase merchandise like T-shirts, caps and other ‘leo’ branded items, and buy CD’s and DVD’s. We’ll supply and ship internationally from this site, so look out for this to be up and running soon.
Links. Here you can find other points of contact, for professional enquiries, bookings and such like. Also here are some of my favourite sites to visit, and the home sites of many of my favourite musicians and work colleagues.
I do hope you all enjoy the new pages and generally have fun with the material here.
“leosayer.com” has a truly international fan base, so I hope that the content here applies to all of you.
I can only apologise that if some of my releases are unknown to you, this is because they have not been made available worldwide. It’s just the way this business is, I’m afraid. Some territories don’t agree in taste with the other ones, but thanks to the web, the world is getting smaller and most of my releases can be found on the internet or by downloading, which I think is great.
Okay, that’s about it for now. Keep watching this page for further developments ‘cos the ‘Show” is definitely still going on.
All the best….
